Shell Game

I love all the things about the beach. I love the feeling of sand between my toes. I love finding treasures on the beach. I like it even more when I figure out how to use them in my designs.

I didn’t find these shells but I love that they’re painted and don’t look like shells.

I love these petite (in comparison to some of what I wear) shell earrings. They have small mother of pearl discs with sparkly gold and square brass beads with green and pink cloisonné beads. I like them because they’re dainty and pretty both up close and at a distance. The shiny gold filled ear wires finish the look.

What is that?

I loved making beautiful things from unusual sources. Sometimes I use standard beads and metals but lately I’ve been looking at things and saying what if to myself.

What if….I took a damaged fender that shines so prettily – think Dorothy’s ruby red slippers but in blue – cut it up and watched it come to life.

I make only one or two pairs of earrings from most of the materials I use – especially ones that require a saw and a lot of work!

What other strange things have I used, you ask? Bugs. Yes, really.

I use the standard stuff to make jewelry, too. But I like making things that aren’t on everyone – and make people say What is that?
